Police: Son Charged With Shooting And Killing Mother

A 26-year-old Wilmington man was arrested on murder charges Friday after allegedly shooting his mother more than once and killing her, Will County sheriff's police said.

Douglas Parini Jr., of 25416 Cottage Lane in unincorporated Wilmington Township, was arrested in Joliet around 4 p.m., an hour after fleeing the house he shared with his parents, Florence and Douglas Parini Sr.

The elder Parini told deputies, who arrived at the scene shortly after 3 p.m., that his wife and son had argued, and he believed his son shot his wife, sheriff's spokesman Pat Barry said late Friday.

Florence Parini, 51, suffered multiple gunshot wounds from a handgun allegedly used by her son, Barry said.

The younger Parini fled the scene but was tracked down by police at McDonough and Chicago streets in Joliet about an hour later. Police said he had been having personal problems.

"The suspect was turned over to our detective division where he made some statements implicating himself in the murder of his mother," Barry said.

He was transported to the Will County detention facility and faces murder charges, police said.

Barry said the sheriff's department had no prior contact with Parini.

He and his mother were the only ones home at the time of the shooting, police said.
