you're aware that the rifle and the boom stick are pretty much the same thing, right?

I picked the boom stick because the chainsaw occasionally didn't start for dramatic purposes, but the boom stick never runs out of ammo

I assume you're referring to the single-barrel shotgun in Evil Dead as opposed to the double-barreled one in Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. It's the same thing, they just did a revisionist history and changed the number of barrels
