Fast-Food Worker Held In Slashing

Watertown, Connecticut -- A fast-food restaurant worker is accused of slashing the throat of a customer who complained about a mistake with his food order, police said.

Harold Lee Lewis, 41, of Watertown, was charged with first-degree assault, tampering with evidence and breach of peace. He was being held.

The victim, 34, who was not identified, was in critical but stable condition at Waterbury Hospital, police said.

Authorities said the incident began just after 8 p.m. Wednesday when the victim drove up to the drive-through window of the Burger King on Main Street to complain about a mistake with his order last Saturday. Lewis and the man argued, and Lewis went outside to the parking lot, police said.

The victim got out of his car near the front of the restaurant and Lewis allegedly slashed his throat with a sharp object that had not been identified, police said. The victim was bleeding profusely and was given life-saving treatment at the scene by paramedics, police said.

A Burger King representative said, "This is a matter for law enforcement officials and we are fully cooperating with the local authorities on their investigation."
