Sounds like you've either got a fucked disk (which you'll see by damage), a fake disk (which you may be able to see via lack of data stripes) or, you're trying to play a PAL format game on an NTSC unit, or likewise.

Don't listen to Phalanx, He's a douche mouth.
I fix PS2's and have modded both Slim & Original. Sometimes the DVD drive gets "stuck". My rule of advice (Very Important). * DON'T PLAY CD'S in a PS2 * It fucks up the lasers position. This could be the case with your PS2 or it could be a dusty lens. First test the drive with a DVD movie. Clean the Game with rubbing alcohol. Also put rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab & GENTLY clean the lens.. If that doesn't work. You're going have to open up the PS2. Best of luck. Sony makes some SHITTY hardware. Don't ever buy a used game, with a big title like that, probly the only real reason they returned it was because it was mest up.But do what i do,buy them on amazon.:)

If you've modded a playstation yourself, then you're not a reprasentative of the company itself, and more than likely know all you know from dodgy online guides...ANY alteration or opening of a playstation immediately voids the warranty, and usually fucks it up six ways from sunday, even if you do a half decent job...Just because you've managed to do some basic laser work and some small success with your system butchery doesn't qualify your answers any better, ok? So once and for all, get over your petty, arrogant bullshit, you loudmouthed little fuckwit. You're not worthy of any further response, so run along and talk to someone stupid enough to think you're worth their time, maybe your mother will have a few minutes to shoot the shit between clients. I've encountered far more problems with used disks than I have had consoles, chaibill, which is why I assume your problem is with the disk.Sometimes what appears to be a relatively minute amount of damage can be just enough to assfuck a disk. Unless you've heard a great amount of laser retracking coming from your console when you turn it on, then usually this problem is about region...seeing as that's not the case here, you should try resurfacing to narrow down the problem. Alternatively, assuming you can't get a refund from your ebay seller (which will be most likely, not when they can fall back on the old "it was fine when I sent it) just contact your local sony repair centre, and send your console in. The centres here package your console very well, and take good care of it, fixing it in a timely manner. You can also apply for extended warranty on their repairs for a relatively low cost, which is worth it with a second hand system. The repairs done by sony are generally cheaper, and by FAR better quality than some garage workshop asshole with a souldering iron...but hey, your choices are your own...
