Wes Craven's New Nightmare is a really good one. In my opinion, it is Craven's best film. While the first Nightmare film is certainly a classic and definitely wins points for its (relative) originality, New Nightmare is great because it takes the Nightmare series in an interesting new, if short-lived, direction. Most times if it even gets a reference, it's kind of an afterthought. Like "oh, yeah, that one was good. I like Freddy." Totally ignoring that the greatness of this film was that it was something very unique.

I second this. New Nightmare was a blast, it was intense and fun. It had everything a Freddy movie should have.
