See, what makes Rosemary's Baby such an amazing movie, isn't the story, though the story is creepy enough. It's the paranoid atmosphere and building of suspense that Polanski gave it, as well as the affecting performance of Mia Farrow. Without them, whatever you've got is going to be very, very average.
Don't I think somebody else could "do their own take" on the story and make something just as good? Quite frankly, no. Polanski and Farrow, perfect synergy.
