yea.. last house on the left was the first movie to ever expose viewers to such raw human horror... wes craven said in one of the extra documnetaries that some of those scenes took him to a very very far off place... one that he didn't care to go to ever again...

i think last house on the left and a nightmare on elm st. are wes's best movies... i think it's neat that wes craven and sean cunningham (sean's area is friday the 13th) went on to make two of the best slashers (minus michael myers) that ended up versing each other...

anyway...

my vote is last house on the left...

scream was a good attempt at bringing back a slasher, but it was perhaps too "stylish" for me
