I liked all 3 Re-Animator films for their own reasons. I used to have a huge obsession with Jeffrey Combs. I would watch almost anything he was in. I have stayed away from The Frighteners for the most part...for some reason. It's definitely one I need to pick up sometime, if the word of most people on the forum is to be trusted. :D
I think the humour in Re-Animator was completely intentional. Combs will always be Herbert West to me, and those films will always hold a special place in my heart. The logical evolution of the mad scientist trope, and it has gone down in film history.
