There's a scene in True ROmance where James Gandolfini beats the hell out of Patricia Arquette. He's about to kill her, and he starts talking about the first time you kill someone, how traumatic it is. Whether you're Wyatt Earp or Jack the RIpper, the first one always fucks you up. But then it becomes same ole, same ole. The same is true with horror movies. The first couple you see freak you out, but you become immune to it. I'm not saying you can't realize a scary scene, but it won't truely terrify you.
