There is The Classroom at the End of the Hall written by Douglas Evans which is a childrens book with short scary stories. However, he is a little hard to find research on. Those that I can find say nothing of a book he wrote called The Room at the End of the Hall. This is the only "Kids" book with this title that seems extremely similar that I can find. With multiple short stories and black and white pictures like you said, perhaps this is it? Hope this helped.
