I enjoyed Tucker and Dale, was underwhelmed by Trollhunter, wouldn't touch Scream 4 with a ten foot pole and have yet to see Stakeland, making my favorite horror film of the year most likely Chillerama. Chillerama was not great, but I think it was the best horror movie of 2011 on the basis of its daring, its ingenuity and its willingness to transgress. It shows hope for the genre to become more in-your-face. We haven't seen a lot of films in the tradition of H.G Lewis and Frank Hennenlotter and whatnot, but this seems like a sign of bolder, badder, nastier films to come that remind filmmakers that they are not limited by propriety or notions of what the genre is, but by their imagination and courage.
