And that's exactly what I mean by the relevance. Having studied/lived within these cultures, having a message in that language gives you the double hit of reminding you of your connection to it and whatever the message means.

The one that got me the most was a friend who at 14 got his brother to tattoo a supposedly mandarin symbol for "determination" on his thigh. He selected it by looking through a book of symbols before he finally settled on that...later on a teacher who spoke Mandarin assured us it was not in that language...he still hasn't found out which language it's from :D

But you MUST show us your tattoo when you get it!!
