That sounds much better in many ways than killing (or at least attacking) someone who looks exactly like your friend or family member.

Although when someone becomes a Zombie are they trapped in their bodies experiencing themselves spinning out of control and becoming a monster or is it something more? When you become a zombie do you die and your soul departs leaving your body with a life of its own? If thats the case, you're not really putting your loved one out of their misery because they already are. What you are now fighting is just their empty shell.
But if that is the case, then killing them shouldnt be hard because its not them, just a husk of what they used to be. Still shooting someone you care about and watching their blood and brains spill out and knowing that you caused that has got to be difficult and its something i'm not sure i could do.
