Yeah but when OP specified monsters I kinda thought faeries. Probably because banshees are more apparitions. I dunno, it's a good point. The case I linked was really demonic possession so I'm contradicting myself a little.

I've always preferred the faerie folklore because of it's 'hidden history'. Everybody knows about banshees, giants, hounds etc. associated with Ireland but the faerie legends have morphed into something cartoon-like and unthreatening. Their origins are much more sinister. Read the link I posted, it's quite distressing.

Also, a little known fact is that the ill-fated Delorean (I think that's how it's spelt) factory was built on the site of an ancient faerie tree. We all know how the Delorean story ends!

I guess the faerie tree is the equivalent of the ancient Indian burial ground of American culture.
