It is an interesting contrast - both shows are trying to do something different in terms of bringing zombies to television.

That's interesting because I would draw the parallels in exactly the opposite way. Dead Set seems more "TVish" to me because it's more over the top, the characterizations are broader, the script is cheesier... while Walking Dead seems more cinematic to me because of the higher production values, the better writing, more subtle acting, etc.
