I love Romero, I really do, and I usually give him a bit of a pass on some of his stuff. Land of the Dead; universally panned but for a zombie movie it was... above average. Sure it didn't have all the trademark Romero goodness but he was handcuffed by the bigwigs in Hollywood this time right? Diary of the Dead came along, ok, no more Hollywood but with that came no budget either. Wasn't a problem in Night... but, with a unique spin on the standard zombie story I bought into it even with social commentary that was neither subtle or new. Yesterday I finally caught his new one... Survival of the Dead... I wish I hadn't. The characters were almost all weak, the story was poorly paced with a message that was spoon fed to the audience, his effects were sad (forget CG George, WE WANT SAVINI), and the atmosphere Romero generally creates was missing completely. In short: I fell asleep.
Then... NEON MANIACS
