The Night Strangler (1973). The perfect sequel to The Night Stalker, this one somehow parallels the basic architecture to the first while remaining fresh if not unique. The humor is perfectly balanced with its creepy tone. The solid story coupled with a redoubtable cast elevates this wonderful flick out of the realms of your typical made-for-television slush movies. Of course, it is the strong character of Darren McGavin that pulls up the pants of The Night Strangler, a bulldog of a reporter whose intuition and intelligence are forever eclipsed by his curiosity, believably leading him to enter worlds best left unentered. With an ending shot in an incredibly eerie set, it seems likely that our hero has run out of ink. Merci beaucoup.
