As a producer who is going to "reboot" the Dr. Phibes movies I would be inclined to do a remake. The reason I would do a remake is because the original is 39 years old. There are generations of movie goers who have never seen the original, so a sequel at this point would be a crime. I would like to cast Gary Oldman as the Doctor. Oldman possesses an otherworldy ability to transform himself into antagonists that you can empathize with, which is key to the character of Dr. Phibes. Plus Gary Oldman could grow a sweet moustache and he is extremely adept at working in an elaborate and fantasical setting.

I find the reasoning behind the choice of doing a remake somewhat simplistic. A new sequel could afford an opportunity for marketting the first 2 films- an out of the box rerelease that could be a cinematic event- as well as new boxed set DVD collection, preparing the way for a new sequel. Still, there are only two possible answers, so I give 3 points to that part of the question.

Second part- casting of Gary Oldman is inspired. He has cred within the genre in many films, he has the chops to live up to the role, and he might even create a portrayal that is a fitting homage to Price. There are only a few other actors I could see attempt the role. Points for this part- 4.5.

Total points- 7.5. An above average answer. No punishment. Small reward.
