Wellll I use Photoshop CS4 cause I when I was in web design we got all those fancy programs for free from this website that was included in our tuition. It has an option for layers. So I did a background layer with the splatters, one for the wolf, and then text defaults to separate layers so I use two colours sometimes as a drop shadow. You can however use the text options to do a drop shadow.
If you can't find a pirated copy of photoshop then you can use Gimp, or Aviary. I like Aviary better because it's online and you don't have to download anything.
