A new martial-arts film called The Silent Flute is being developed, based on a treatment written by Bruce Lee before his death. But, actually, it's not as new as it sounds.
Producer Paul Maslansky is behind the project, according to Variety. But here's the thing -- Maslansky previously produced a film version of the story called Circle of Iron back in 1978. Any Lee fan will tell you that Circle of Iron is a sort of "lost" Bruce Lee movie, one he conceived of and intended to star in before his untimely demise.
Maslansky has now secured the rights to the property, as well as financing for the new film from a Hong Kong company. His son Sasha is writing the script, based on Lee's original treatment.
"The Silent Flute will be an epic martial arts adventure film that promises to honor Bruce Lee's original artistic and philosophical conception," says the elder Maslansky. "It also promises to reach new levels of action and adventure never before seen in martial-arts filmmaking."
No word yet on who will star in the new film.
