Sounds more like a sequel to me. If Scorcese, de Niro & Schrader were all on board it could be great. Scorcese has never been known to revisit old material, so who knows if it will ever happen. Really creative people don't repeat themselves- they're always looking for something new.
Still - Taxi Driver is one of the greatest films ever made. Seeing what happened to Travis Bickle after his 15 minutes of fame would be intresting.
