Man Shuts Off Power To Hospital Because He's Playing Silent Hill!

A 35 year old man in the Netherlands recently sparked controversy when he broke into a hospital basement and shut down the power for the entire building, thinking he was playing Konami's popular title – Silent Hill.

Jan. H was a patient at the Sophia Hospital in Holland when his state of mind led him to believe that shutting down the hospital's power would allow him to acquire a toothbrush that was needed to complete a Silent Hill puzzle.

Jan was suffering from psychosis where such individuals may report hallucinations or delusional beliefs, and may exhibit personality changes and thought disorder. This may be accompanied by unusual or bizarre behavior, as well as difficulty with social interaction and impairment in carrying out the daily life activities.

As a result of the 45 minute blackout, people were trapped in elevators and doctors had to manually keep intensive care patients breathing. Fortunately, nobody was hurt.

Various versions of the Silent Hill game have been released for Playstation 2, Xbox360 and PC formats but the general plot lines for them generally consists of individuals searching for a relative/friend in a deserted town, where their only company are zombies and ghouls. Other adaptations include linking their past to the town etc. The town will also have a good and evil side. The player will have to guide their character through a list of riddles and puzzles in their quest to find the missing friend/relative.

Surprisingly, he was found not guilty in a trial last week as the court ruled Jan had "no idea of the true consequences of his deed."
