The second installment of the Silent Hill series leads an egocentric and fame driven Cincinnati journalist, author, and television personality named Darren Cartland, into Charleston, West Virginia, to work on a documentary about the nearby abandoned mining-turned-resort town of Silent Hill. He finds himself trapped inside of a rapidly closing, and shape shifting shopping mall with a mysterious young woman named Kara. The exits are mysteriously blocked with impenetrable, seemingly organic, mesh gates and a series of disturbing noises and muffled voices from an unknown section of the mall, first lead the two to face each other, and then sheer unimaginable terror. During the second act of the film, the transformed shopping mall acts as a gateway and forces Kara and Darren deep into the town of Silent Hill itself, in the search of Kara's true identity. Darren quickly learns that there is more to her past than she is letting on, and the town itself is holding a longstanding secret, forcing it to take on a life of its own, beyond any imaginings of a scorned child, and more like the power of a long dormant, now awakened malevolent force. One that will make them both confront what they for so long buried in the recesses of their subconscious minds, separately or together.
