Wild Strawberries (1957). An absolute gem of a movie by Ingmar Bergman. This is a gentle story about loss and regret, emotional distance and rediscovery, as seen by an elderly man as he re-examines his past on a rather introspective and extraordinary day. Victor Sjostrom plays the part of aging Professor Borg with perfection. The rest of the cast, Bergman's usuals, are just as fantasitic, with maybe a special mention going out to Ingrid Thulin's strong and compelling role. This simple story is told with brilliance, and really serves to ellucidate Bergman's genius. Ashe.
