Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is reportedly taking over from Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski as the director of the highly anticipated feature film adaptation of the Take-Two Interactive videogame BioShock.
Variety reports that the 28 Weeks Later and Intacto helmer's participation is dependent on Take-Two, which has director approval.
Verbinski will still produce the film, which was scripted by John Logan (Star Trek: Nemesis, The Aviator). The trade adds that "Fresnadillo's producing partner, Enrique Lopez Lavigne, is in talks to become a producer."
Verbinski backed out of BioShock because Universal wants to shoot the movie overseas due to budgetary considerations and he is already obligated to make the Paramount toon Rango with Johnny Depp.
