What's great about the end, though, is the whole "the lady or the tiger" aspect. You are free to choose whether or not this is a happy ending:
A. Eli truly cares for Oskar and wants to spend the rest of his life with him for no other reason.
B. Eli is using Oskar because she needs someone to take care of her; Oskar is filling Hakan's role.
At any rate, the whole film is great, but from the beginning of the pool scene to the end credits is truly virtuosic filmmaking.
