It wasn't 1 take. I saw an interview with this dude. He said he tried 5-6 times total. Also they throw food in the water to keep the fish at the surface.
He has also caught marlins with his bare hands jumping off jetskis and boats. His next stunt is gonna be jumping off an inner tube being towed by a boat.
He almost always practices catch & release. He said he's caught over 10,000 fish and has only kept 8 of them, all of which he ate. He doesn't approve of catching them, keeping them but not eating them.
