Streep and Hoffman absolutely light the screen on fire - the climactic scene in Streep's office has to be one of the most intense that I've seen in quite some time.

It's a film that leaves a lot of room for the audience to think, thanks to a fantastic script. SPOILER: I still can't say for sure whether or not he actually did it. I'm inclined to side with Streep's character, but I love how they left it VERY open ended.
Awesome! I'm glad you saw it. I thought it was great, too. What I love about the film (and this goes along with your spoiler) is that nothing is wasted. It's a very simple film, and it presents itself as such; no excess or extraneous B.S. It's a film called Doubt, and it deals with just that, on all fronts.

Absolutely agreed.

EDIT: Read this Return (SPOILER!!!): I hear what you're saying about being inclined to agree with Sister Aloysius, especially after she claimed to have contacted some people in Father Flynn's past and his subsequent nervousness/freaking out over this. However, it's just another part of the puzzle. It could be absolutely anything in his past that made him worried at this prospect, not necessarily sexual abuse. I love the handling of the idea of doubt in the film, because that is its central focus. Whether or not Father Flynn is guilty is immaterial, and to have given even the slightest evidence one way or the other would have completely ruined the film. Thoughts?
At any rate, I agree with you. Great film. Brilliant script. And the acting (yes, especially the scene in the office!!!) is, as you said, illuminating.
