Sorry, Bat-fans, but Batman 3 won't be the next film from Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan after all.

Variety reports that Nolan has written a spec script entitled Inception that he intends on directing for Warner Bros., the studio behind the Batman films.

Production will commence this summer for a summer 2010 release.

Nolan's wife and producing partner Emma Thomas will produce the science-fiction film, which the trade describes as "big-scale." The Hollywood Reporter calls it "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind."

Warner Bros. Pictures Group president Jeff Robinov said in a statement to THR, "Chris Nolan is a visionary filmmaker who continually raises the bar with each movie he makes. ... We are thrilled to be collaborating again with him and Emma on this exciting new motion picture."
