Definitely but as far my little lovely experience with Indian films (I'm not saying that SDM is an Indian film; just according to the premise of the story/film) I think in India there have already been a lot of great movies made (as more or less covered the same premise of street/Slum lives as well as corruption & underworld activities) but not 'somehow' critically acclaimed worldwide like the way SDM did. For example,
Salaam Bombay (1988), Satya (1998), Company (2002) were also some fascinating movies that appealed to me in more broad way than SDM.
