At least in the new Siren: Blood Curse you get the chance to more or less fight them off. But i still don't appreciate the concept.

I totally get what you both are driving at, but I thought it was different. At a time when RE and Silent Hill were fanboy's wet dreams come true, the makers of
Siren wanted to make something different, and not just another RE/Silent Hill clone.
Ergo, the slightly complicated gameplay. It was unique and offered something different, IMO. Not everything has to be confront-get best weapon out-shoot 'em up kinda stuff. I loved it.
