He also just gave everyone their reviews (I'm a contractor, so I didn't have to get one from him) and he basically made everyone feel like shit about themselves.

Do you think he's actually a nice guy, just doesn't know how to communicate well, especially in the written word? Or do you think he's probably really an asshole and is only nice to our faces cuz he's afraid to show his true colors face to face?

Edit: I guess I should add that I must be doing something right, cuz they keep extending my contract. It's just really hard to work for a person like that.
Obviously the guy's a perfectionist, but lacking in proper management skills. In order to get the best out of the team, the leader has to keep his "door open", so to speak...so that communication is to and fro between the team leader and the team members, and also to show the team members that they are accessible to the leader whenever they need him.

Of course he must be under a lot of pressure himself to maintain deadlines and costs, so careful planning must be his priority most of the time. If those arent met, he is liable to blow his top...overt pressure and continuous tension can do that, even to the most level-headed of men.

I have a hunch he is a nice guy, but working under some strain and to meet pre-planned and announced schedules. Look at him as a person who is working under "someone else's thumb", and you might change your views about him.
