sorry that i never saw your donnie post. may be i would've seen it sooner.
anyway, my take on the movie was that when he was able to see what was pulling him along his path he could see into his future b/c it was already pre-determined. this goes back to the convo he had w/ noah wyle. i think he was able to piece all the clues together in enough time to change the future. everyone was hurt b/c he survived that day and to make things better for everyone he had to die. it sucks b/c he was a real person and good and honest. he was able to at least find joy before he died but it just suckd that he did. i cried.
