I don't think so. Think how few of the people nowadays who watch the Bond films have read any of the books. I know
nobody who has ever read a James Bond book. I think I agree with him. Not that it should be happier and funnier, but that it suits the time. With all of the current action films, this is just what the people want. And in his day, the Bond he played was what people wanted. At the end of the day, the studio wouldn't be too bothered if it wasn't even the slightest bit close to the book if they thought they'd make loads of money.
And I have to say, I'm surprised at how few people liked Lazenby. I thought he was perfect in the role and should have done more.
