It is widescreen. It just looks stretched cause of the picture's dimensions when taking the screen capture. Even with the black bars at the top and bottom, the picture still cuts off. So I don't know. Maybe this is a common problem with DVDs and their TV versions. On TV, the broadcast usually starts with that message "..It has been formatted to fit your screen." But wouldn't that indicate that the picture dimension would be compressed? Based on that, one would think that the cut-off picture would occur on TV, not on DVD, but it's the opposite at least in this case. Maybe if someone else has the DVD and can confirm what I'm thinking, that Paramount simply cropped/matted without presenting the original widescreen.
