I have always been fascinated by cephalopods (squid, octopus), with cuttlefish being particular favorites. If any class of animal is going to develope sentience and technology, my money is on these guys. Dolphins lack the limbs necessary to develope technology.
Although my second bet would be on Rats. in terms of intelligence and breeding ability, they are untouchable.
And I am with Urge on that, i love rats. My best pet to date was a rat.
But if forced to choose between being a cat person or dog person, i definitely favor dogs.
