While it may not end up surpassing Titanic's ticket sales to become the No. 1 domestic release of all time, The Dark Knight is certainly well on its way to claiming the second position thanks to its latest milestone.
Variety reports that the Christopher Nolan-directed Bat-sequel passed the $400 million mark Monday, with a grand total of $400.1 million.
The Dark Knight remains in first place at the U.S. box office after three weeks in release, declining only 43% last weekend and fending off the debut of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor to stay on top.
As the trade points out, this continued success indicates TDK should pass the $500 million mark in the coming weeks, placing it right behind Titanic's first-place position in all-time domestic ticket sales ($600.8 million).
