that's true but i don't think it would have mattered where the story was set, the religious nut played by harden would definitely had a following anywhere(even the great white nort:p).

the reason is because when you scare the bejesus out of people they will latch on to ANYONE who sounds like they have a solution. and in that particular situation in that supermarket the only person offering a solution is the one that believes in mysterious white-bearded men in the sky and talking snakes and burning bushes. basically magic. now i'm not trying to dash anyone's spirituality, which is a very personal thing and deserves respect. but when nutty religious zealots start pushing their rhetoric on the scared and uninformed you get the kind of effect you saw in the movie. anyone notice the look of POWER on her face when the young soldier was stabbed by one of her "disciples"?

power corrupts for certain. even if it's righteous power.
