Saw could have been much worse but if it made a ton of cash and stayed a hard R it still would serve as a beacon of hope to those who like their horror R (or worse). Totally agree.
Look what happened to Grindhouse at the BO. Doesn't deter it from my Top 10 post-2000 one bit.
The one thing which makes PG 13 sell is the pre- and post- teen audience. They are the target groups. And studios are smart about knowing EXACTLY where to rake the moolah in from.
A movie doesn't fare by its quality anymore. It's just a dish now - the more attractive the dish, the more chances it has of getting lapped up.
