Mr. Brooks
good performances and a fun story, but over-complicated and artificial feeling.
6.5/10
Death Sentence
James Wan's best film yet. A simple, fun exploitation flick with solid directing. Over the top, unbelievable and imperfect, but this is my cup of tea
7/10
The Wizard of Gore (1970) & Scum of the Earth (1963)
Last night's Grindhouse Film Fest had a doozie of a double-bill. I'm no huge fan of Herschel Gordon Lewis, but catching these films on the big screen with a rowdy, drunken audience is a good time. The films are weak. Scum of the Earth is a simple early "roughie" about a model who gets blackmailed into posing for degrading photographs...blah, blah blah, it's has some truly atrocious dialog that makes for a good laugh. The Wizard of Gore is a psychedelic freakout that makes no sense, has terrible acting and gore that is separated from being scary by the worst editing in history. I hadn't seen in in a decade and it held no new surprises.
bad films, fun night
WOG - 5/10
SOTE - 3/10
