i would actually say the opposite: the
saw movies have a good
quantity of gore, but the
quality of the films doesn't compare to the classics. the
saw films definitely have some nice gore scenes, but overall they feel mostly hollow. not to mention every one of them has had an annoying and forced "twist" at the end (except the first one, that was pretty impressive). i haven't seen the fourth one yet, so i can't speak for it, but i really feel the
saw films are overrated, as is this whole new pop-fascination with "torture films," and i really believe they're doing more bad than good for the horror genre in general. they lack creativity (other than the torture methods, i guess), and continue to bring down people's expectations for horror.
as for
ichi: definitely a good film but yeah, the bad cgi does make just a couple parts a little hard to believe.
