I'll be signing a contract in the morning (gotta get it done before the WGA strike:mad: ) and then I'l be reading my spooky poems to my son's class at noon.

Here's one for ya

Requiem for a Pumpkin
(c) 2007

Gone, all gone is the field I called home
Gone is all hope for survival.
Unspeakable things they have done to me here
Ever since my untimely arrival.

I used to know nothing but sunshine and warmth
Snuggled amongst my own kind.
But the days grew shorter and our number grew smaller
As my brothers were ripped from the vine.

I howled and I screamed as they severed my stem
But my cries fell upon stone deaf ears.
They whisked me away to a land made of steel
Where no one would care for my tears.

Paper laid out, sharp instruments too
My leathery flesh they did slice.
Clawing and ripping my insides to shreds
And toasting my seeds with spice.

They carved a crude visage across my best side
Mocking my pain with a grin.
Then burnt me alive with a candle inside
The true terror was about to begin.

Small and quite hideous the creatures surround me
Thudding across the concrete
Cackling and screaming, every one of them chants
That awful refrain “Trick of Treat!”

But the daemons have gone and I’m all alone
Burnt out and left here to die.
And boys are approaching, sledgehammers in hand
And I shudder to ask myself why…
