Seriously, when I want to watch a gory trailer and those bullshit pulldown boxes pop up for me to select my birthdate it pisses me off. Quit wasting my time with this crap. Honestly, have any of you younguns' ever put it your real birthdate if you're underaged, or saw the age restriction and thought, "Well fuck me sideways, I can't watch this, I'm too young!"?
Didn't read the whole thread as I couldn't tell where the topic ended and the...whatever...started.
Anyhows, I'd say it's more about legal liability than anything.
Seems like in this day and age where a burglar can sustain an injury and sue the home owners, smokers can win lawsuits against tobacco companies when they develop the lung cancer they've been told they would all along, videogames and movies being held to blame for violent behaviour and criminal acts, and all the other riduculous cases out there, that it's equally likely some idiot might try their luck at a legal case against something like this.
"You've put horrible images in their head...they had a nightmare 2 years after seeing your trailer...that must be the reason"
This way the company covers themselves, I doubt it's just a rather unclever way to keep out under 16's/18's, but more towards
"hey, this contains stuff that in some peoples perceptions isn't suitable for people of a certain age group", that way, anyone viewing it has been made aware in advance, and any points made against the company can be met with a swift "well, since they LIED about their age to get in, clearly their moral fibre was corrupt in the first place...blah blah blah"
