On Leatherface, along the lines of maintaining some kind of female figure in the family, however dysfunctional they seem to be. He was originally a very confused yet sensitive and vulnerable monster. The fact that they then wrote this re-imagining of Leatherface as having deeply rooted viciousness and malevolence because of his deformity, to me misses the original's point. As a remake prequel, it's not even remotely creative. Gruesome, sure.
