It was homophobic not only in that line of dialogue, but in the portrayal of Xerxes (masculine figure vs. effeminate figure). Your comment about an old-school way of looking at homosexulity is misplaced. Old school, but not THIS old school. The Spartans actually partook in same-sex relations much like the Athenians. I was saying it was homophobic because it completely reversed this aspect of history simply to portray that image. Perhaps due to the adapters feelings, or to connect to their target audience. If anything, this change is attempting to further modernize the film.
