Dark Sky's French horror "Them" coming in August

In a summer of big-ticket horror films dedicated to pushing the envelope on blood and guts carnage, the scariest film on the horizon may be Them – a low-budget thriller that proves the adage that what you don’t see can be so much scarier than what you do.

Written and directed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud and starring Olivia Bonamy and Michaël Cohen, Them (aka Ils) was a surprise hit in Europe and was an official selection at a number of prestigious film festivals including SXSW and the Philadelphia, Seattle, Vail Colorado and Newport Film Festivals. Them will premiere in New York and Los Angeles on August 17 with additional cities and dates to follow.

The plot follows Lucas and Clémentine, a thirty-something couple, who are expats in Romania. They live in an isolated house in the suburbs of Bucharest. Clémentine, a French teacher, and Lucas, a novelist, live in peaceful happiness. However, one evening in their house, everything is turned upside down. Rain is beating outside. The telephone keeps ringing... distant voices at the end of the line... incomprehensible. The couple are not alone. The nightmare begins. THEY are there....

Don’t go into Them (aka Ils) expecting a hardcore horror film- expect a cold, dark thriller that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Tartan Asia Extreme Video bringing "Carved" and "Bad Blood" in August

No matter the time or culture…Always beware the woman who asks, “Do you think I’m pretty?”

On August 14th, Tartan Video’s Asia Extreme label will bring the killer hit Carved (aka The Slit-Mouthed Woman) to DVD shelf space across the country.

Thirty years ago, a suburban town was terrorized by the spirit of a woman whose beautiful face had been grotesquely disfigured by a jealous husband. Roaming the streets wearing a long coat and surgical mask, the spirit would approach young victims and, while removing her mask, ask “Am I pretty?” The victim’s response would almost always lead to their violent death. Now, one by one, children are disappearing again...

Directed by Koji Shiraishi (Dark Tales of Japan, Dead Girl Walking), Carved (aka The Slit-Mouthed Woman) opened theatrically in Japan in March 2007. This film will have a simultaneous US and Japanese DVD Release Date.

In Japanese, with English and Spanish subtitles, Carved (aka The Slit-Mouthed Woman) is presented in anamorphic widescreen, Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and DTS Surround Sound 5.1. Special DVD features TBD.

In the vein of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village and Alejandro Amenábar’s The Others, Tartan Video will release it’s own tale of eerie myth and consequence on August 28th with BAD BLOOD, a chilling tale of country life gone horrifically awry.

A prominent and respected family inherits a beautiful home in the country, nestled deep inside a tiny village. Despite protests from his wife and children who have grown accustomed to the finer things in life and believe the house should be sold for profit, the father decides to uproot everyone and move to the new house. Almost immediately the small group learns that the village is overshadowed by superstition, religion and mysterious folklore. Soon strange events begin occurring and family is forced to consider an alarming rumor running rampant throughout the village: by inheriting the house, they have also inherited a dark and menacing curse...

Originally titled Coisa Ruim, Bad Blood is directed by Tiago Guedes and Frederico Serra and opened in the 2006 edition of the Fantasporto Festival in Portugal.

Portuguese with English and Spanish subtitles, Bad Blood is presented in anamorphic widescreen, Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and DTS Surround Sound 5.1. Special DVD features are yet to be determined but will include the original theatrical trailer and trailers of Tartan Video’s upcoming releases.

50 Cent to join Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro in "Righteous Kill"

Overture Films has picked up all North American rights to Righteous Kill, a $60 million thriller starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino as two detectives tracking a serial killer.

Rapper 50 Cent is in final negotiations to co-star as a drug dealer who helps the detectives with their investigation.

Director Jon Avnet is set to begin principal photography in Bridgeport, Conn., and New York in September. Russell Gewirtz ("Inside Man," "Labyrinth") is writing the screenplay, which has De Niro and Pacino onscreen together for nearly the entire film. The two longtime friends shared no screen time in 1974's "The Godfather: Part II" and only one scene in 1995's "Heat."
