I agree, obviously horror films can creep me out a bit but it has been years since I have actually been scared by a horror film. Films that you have mentions and other like The day after tomorrow etc can scare me now just as you said on a different level.

Reminds me of The Day After. A post nuclear war film about ordinary people surviving. There is a British version called "Threads" and that film has to be one of the most realistically horrific films I have ever seen.
