I never expect a sequel to be as good as the original film (except for those like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, knowing the story as well as I did, and the overall quality of the first film), and a lot of the time they are completely unnecessary. Sometimes they work, sometimes they are even better. And sometimes they are huge disappointments.

As for the list. Highlander 2 actually makes the top of my worst sequel list as well. There is a reason all involved just ignore that one, and pretend like it never happened....;)
I didn't hate Batman Forever, despite some casting problems, but Batman and Robin was indeed very, very bad.
Never saw Superman 4. Didn't know it existed until very recently.
Exorcist 2, as I have said before, maybe the worst sequel to an excellent film ever made.
The Matrix was a great film, the other two were very disappointing. Not the worst sequels, but they didn't do justice to the story they were trying to tell.
Alien 3, I have never liked this movie, I agree that it is one of the worst, based on the quality of the previous films, but no, not the absolute worst.
Speed 2, I remember nothing about this movie, if it tells you anything.
Jaws IV, hilariously bad.
I disagree with Pirates of the Caribbean, I think they are all very solid, fun films. Though the first one is still the best one.
The Phantom Menace, a complete bore.
X-Men: The Last Stand, like this one too, not up to the quality of the previous ones, but still fun.
The Ring 2, well, I didn't like the first one....and the second one certainly didn't improve.
Blade Trinity.......yeah, its bad....;) Like both of the previous ones though.
Terminator 3, VERY disappointing.....the previous 2 are awesome on all levels.....this one is just a bore.
