I would say yes and no at the same time, the biggest differences I think between the two is that gialli has a slower build up and less of a gimicky ending. Also, gialli often favors mystery over horror, despite the graphic blood shed, plus gialli rarely if ever have a sequel, and the sequel is damn near a characteristic of the slasher genre.
All the same, let it be clear, I love both styles and believe they are both worth anyone's time to investigate.
