Night Watch (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403358/) is biggest thing to hit Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union and the biggest grossing movie there of all time. With it's sequel, Day Watch (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409904/) opening tomorrow (in NY/LA), it is really something to go see.
Night Watch is a dark action/fantasy about good vs. evil. In addition to humans, there are creatures called "Others" who have special powers. Some of them are shapeshifters or vampires, can see the future, and more. There used to be a war between the "Light Others (the good)" and the "Dark Others (the bad)", but there was a truce called between the two sides. Now the "Night Watch" polices the Dark Others the "Day Watch" polices the Light others to not break the truce.
This movie is visually stunning, very stylish, with impressive FX considering it's meager $6 million budget. Though I'm sure a little goes a long way in Russia these days. Night Watch is currently on DVD and I suggest checking it out before seeing Day Watch, which will hopefully come to a theatre near you.
